Dr Promila Gupta has obtained M. Sc. (1991) and Ph. D. (1997) in Botany from Department of Botany, University of Delhi. For her doctoral thesis, she worked on the reproductive biology of guggul (Commiphora wightii), a traditional medicinal plant. Prior to joining GGSIP University, she had taught at Kirori Mal College and Maitreyi College under University of Delhi (1997-98). She has post-doctoral experience as Research Scientist at Department of Plant Molecular Biology, University of Delhi South Campus where she worked on developing transgenic rice and millets for enhanced nutritional traits. She had completed an independent DST-Funded Young Scientist research project on exploring variability in guggul populations at selected sites using molecular approaches. Presently, she is one of the contributing members of a UGC funded SAP departmental project for exploring bioactive compounds from natural sources. Her areas of interest include economic botany, developmental biology, plant improvement and adaptation strategies for stress (biotic/abiotic) tolerance and survival. Current area of interest includes looking for selected bioactives and their roles in alleviating various types of stresses. Presently, the doctoral fellows in the lab are exploring the potential of bioactives in management and treating various diseases (in vitro models) besides looking into their mechanism of action as well
