Energy Conservation Measures

Measures have been taken by the University for Energy Conservation and use of renewable energy to reduce the carbon foot print of the campus. University has the following facilities:
  1. Solar energy
  2. Biogas plant
  3. Wheeling to the Grid
  4. Sensor-based energy conservation
  5. Use of LED bulbs/ power efficient equipment

Some of the initiative in this direction includes:
  • All the academic buildings have been designed with central courtyards open to sky providing natural ventilation and light and also improve air circulation. These design features result in relatively lower consumption of electricity for maintaining ambient temperature and lighting.
  • Fly Ash Bricks which are eco-friendly and have more insulating properties have been extensively used in construction of buildings. As a result there will be saving in power consumption for air conditioning.
  • Energy efficient screw chillers which having low power consumption per tonnage of air conditioning have been used in central air conditioning plant.
  • The electrical luminaries used have electronic power chokes and CFL luminaries have been replaced with LED luminaries in a phased manner.
  • Windows in buildings have been fitted with green reflect SOL glasses.
  • External surface have been tiled with clay tiles
  • Under deck insulation has been provided on the roof reducing the heating load in the buildings and also reducing air conditioning load.
  • Grid connected Solar power plant of capacity 140KW has been installed and operational on roof top of Academic, Library and Administrative buildings. The system has been designed in a manner such that in case of surplus power available from roof top solar plant than the local consumption, then the excess power is fed into the grid of local power company. About 3,00,000 units of power is being generated through renewable energy source in Dwarka Campus
  • Eight units of Solar water heaters with capacity to provide 40000 litre of warm water have been installed and operational in 4 hostels in campus.
  • Sensor based electrical fittings in faculty rooms, library and administrative blocks, staff toilets etc are being installed for automatic operation of lights and other electrical appliances in order to reduce power consumption.
  • Biogas plant is operational in the University. It is used for lighting as well as for the purpose of teaching to the students about the bio resources, their recycling and their use for meeting societal needs.
