By Aditi Johari(USICT)
29th November, 2014 was a very memorable day for the tech-savvy students of USICT who are always enthusiastic about anything and everything related to technology. This was the day when these students got an opportunity to attend workshops on two topics considered really important in the current day technological scenario- ANDROID DEVELOPMENT and EMBEDDED SYSTEMS. Both the workshops were conducted by DUCAT in the University premises i.e., the D-Block and the C-Block auditoriums, respectively.
The full day workshop on android development provided basic knowledge of android app development to the students and helped them learn about and identify opportunities in the increasing android market. The workshop attended by around 65 students answered questions about the future of android and its impact on today’s technology. A DUCAT representative, Mr. Divya, delivered the keynote speech presenting the common myths about android , explaining the four basic layers of android and their interaction amongst each other. Examples were given to explain things like
- DVM
- Dependency Management and managing resources
- Adding data through xml and java code
- Android development tools
- Life cycle of app development
On the other hand, the workshop on embedded systems was attended by 70-80 students. The sole speaker talked about the various generations of computers, data storage and its types. An interactive session was held to help the speaker attain an idea of the understanding and knowledge of the students prior to any demonstration. Presentations were used to illustrate
- Types of robots
- Difference between robots and machines
- Concepts behind line following and obstacle avoiding robots
- Languages used to program robots and embedded systems
The highlights of the workshop were, undoubtedly, the videos on ASIMO, presently the most advanced robot, and the football match played by the robots of two teams developed by some students in Canada
